Moreau Mews Town Square was back before the City of Melville on 21 July after years of planning, community consultation and design work.

The motion before Council sought to revoke the 2023 decision to convert the City-owned site at Moreau Mews and Kishorn Road entirely to public open space. It also asked the City to investigate a mixed outcome that could combine public space with property development.

Councillors were evenly split, with six voting for the motion and six against it. Because a revocation requires an absolute majority, the motion was lost. The existing decision to progress the full site as public open space remains in place.

The City’s current project page says detailed design is continuing, with construction planned for the 2026-27 period. Its capital works program lists $4.5 million for development and construction of the park.

Third Wave BBQ has a birthday offer worth registering for before the candles come out.

The birthday guest can choose from a separate menu that includes an entrée, one of the restaurant’s slow-smoked meats, and either a side or dessert. Third Wave values the meal at around $65.

Register online and the voucher will be emailed to you. It can be used for dine-in during the week before or after your birthday, and you will need to show identification when ordering. You cannot redeem it while dining alone. There is a minimum party spend of $51, a limit of one birthday voucher for every two diners, and the voucher cannot be combined with another offer.

Third Wave recommends registering ahead of time, then telling the team about the birthday voucher when you arrive so they can give you the correct menu.

Precinct residents can now find a growing list of current local offers in one place – Precinct Perks.

The launch collection includes Clancy’s, StoneWater, Ceramics International in for tiling, grout and glue, and audio and visual specialists West Coast Hifi. You can see every participating business on the website, then just add the Precinct Hub app to reveal the resident offer details. The app brings a lot of other benefits as well, so it’s great to have on your phone for easy access to all the information on the Precinct Hub.

Harus Mart plans to open in August, in the space directly to the left of the main Precinct entrance. Many folks have seen the Fit-out is underway now, with doors expected to open this month (give or take final approvals and the usual construction shuffle).

It'll be a modern neighbourhood convenience store with a proper newsagency at its heart: newspapers, magazines, stationery, greeting cards and Lotterywest, alongside the everyday bits you always seem to need at the worst possible moment – snacks, drinks, groceries and household essentials. There's also kitchenware and homewares, mobile accessories, a few AI-powered toys and gadgets, and the Perth-designed Ligér range of premium thermal bottles and customised gifts.

Handy services are on the cards as well: Lotterywest, Western Union money transfers, printing and photocopying, customised giftware, and – pending final sign-off with the providers – parcel collection and delivery. Trading hours are still being locked in, but the plan is extended convenience-store hours through the week.

Behind it all is Jonathan, a Perth local of more than 16 years who's done a bit of everything – including a stint as a contracted journalist and running a poultry distribution business that supplied 150-plus IGA stores across WA. His aim for Harus Mart is less "shop" and more "local meeting point" – somewhere to grab a paper, collect a parcel, sort a last-minute gift, try your luck with Lotto, or just stop in for a chat. Do drop by and introduce yourself once they're open!

The steam room is back to being non-functional, A replacement motor has been ordered and will be installed as soon as it arrives. We will have the steam room back in operation as quickly as possible once the part is received.

Unfortunately, the pool repairs require an extended period of dry weather before the works can commence. Due to the nature of the repairs, the affected area must remain completely dry to ensure the repairs are completed correctly and provide a long-lasting solution. There is no timeframe for these repairs being completed.

Neighbours gathered at Clancy’s last night for the first Meet & Eat. It was a lovely evening, with new introductions, familiar faces catching up and plenty of good conversation over food and drinks.

No Mafia in Northbridge was a very pleasant food and ambience surprise! From the moment we arrived, the place was buzzing. By 6:30 pm on a Saturday night, every table was full, creating the kind of lively atmosphere that tells you you're in for something special. While it looks like a stylish restaurant, it somehow manages to feel like you're sitting down for dinner at Nonna's house. The staff only add to that feeling. Warm, efficient and genuinely welcoming, treating you more like a favourite family member than just another customer.

We started with a simple but seriously delicious selection of antipasti. Glossy green olives, warm fresh Italian bread, and creamy stracciatella topped with honey and almonds that was impossible to stop eating. The calamari fritti was beautifully crisp, light and perfectly paired with a silky house made aioli.

The mains arrived just as we were still waxing lyrical about how good the starters had been, and somehow, they managed to raise the bar even higher. The gnocchi with porcini cream were soft, pillowy and wonderfully rich, disappearing far too quickly. Around the table, there was unanimous approval for every dish: the pappardelle with braised duck, mushrooms and truffle oil were deeply comforting, the tagliolini with calamari, nduja and chilli delivered just the right amount of heat, and the maccheroni with pork sausage, rosemary and celery was packed with bold, savoury flavour. Every plate was beautifully balanced and left us wondering how we'd ever choose just one favourite.

The only small hiccup of the evening was that our rocket salad was forgotten and arrived after the mains. Surprisingly, it turned out to be the perfect finale. The dressing struck that ideal balance between balsamic and olive oil, while delicate baby rocket leaves were generously scattered with grated pecorino Sardo, adding just the right amount of salty richness. Served at the end, it refreshed our palates and finished the meal on a high note.

For someone who doesn't consider themselves a fan of pasta or Italian food, No Mafia completely changed my perspective. Outstanding food, genuine hospitality and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger long after the plates have been cleared. I’ve already booked a table to go back for more.
